EWU administration and staff noticed that a lot of students were wearing fan gear from other universities around campus. Our Dean of Students approached me with the idea for a list-type citation, playfully condemning the lack of school spirit while also serving as a coupon to buy merch from the correct school. To begin researching, I studied examples of satirical citation notepads as popularized by Knock Knock.
Design Process
I started by writing the copy and tweaked the wording until it made semantic and grammatical sense, which was more difficult than I anticipated.
I wanted to use visuals in addition to the checkboxes to emphasize the satirical tone of the citation. I did some sketches of our beloved mascot, Swoop, experimenting with different expressions. I brought these ideas to my team, and we settled on a goofy blend of emotions.
